As newer cars such as the ones we specialize (Acura, Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Land Rover,  Mini Cooper, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Saab, Volkswagen, Volvo) are approaching the end of their factory warranties and arriving at independent shops, we are discovering that they have been fairly neglected in basic service.
Basic service for European Autos means oil service with OEM filter and engine oil, tire rotation and brake fluid changes (and sometimes transmission fluid change). Import automakers claim their vehicles only need oil and filter changes every 10K or 15K miles when they are purchased new in an effort to be perceived as eco-friendly as well as a lower maintenance vehicle manufacturer.

Maintenance plans offered through these manufacturers appear to cover the full maintenance charges, but they do not.  The simplistic maintenance plans offered cover only oil changes within the extended mileage guidelines. Internal engine problems are a result of these extended mileage intervals as engines are not receiving oil and filter changes as frequently as necessary. Oil flow and oil pressure control many components inside the modern engine which means that high quality clean engine oil is imperative. The combustion process creates contaminants which combines with oil and remains there. These contaminants build up over time and can clog the small passages through which the oil passes within the engine, which can lead to premature mechanical failure.

If your new Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz, Mini Cooper, Porsche, or Volkswagen purchase includes a free maintenance plan, we recommend that you have supplemental oil services performed alternately with those covered/recommended by your automaker. Eurotech Knoxville generally recommends OEM engine oil and filter changes every 5K miles. This simple conservative approach will reward you with a longer service life on your vehicle’s engine mechanical components over many years.
